The HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus is the main transport link on the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge. Running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, the HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus plies only on the restricted area on the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge between the HZMB Hong Kong Port and HZMB Macau Port or HZMB Zhuhai Port.
As I was heading to Hong Kong International Airport to catch my flight, I chose to head back to Hong Kong by the HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus as it would be a lot nearer than getting the ferry back to downtown Hong Kong, and a lot cheaper than getting the infrequent direct ferry to Skypier.
Heading to the HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus ticket counter to purchase my ticket.
Self-service kiosks are also available, but only accepts mPay, Octopus or Alipay.
Heading to queue at the manned ticket counters.
The HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus fare for a daytime journey between 6.00am and 11.59pm costs MOP65 (~S$10.97). You can pay with Macau Pass, Octopus, Visa, Mastercard, Cash, mPay, WeChat Pay, Alipay, UnionPay, and QuickPass, which is more convenient for me.
Waiting for my turn at the ticket counter. As the transaction is rather simple, they process passengers very quickly.
My ticket for the HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus from HZMB Macau Port (Posto Fronteiriço da Ponte Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau / 澳门口岸) to HZMB Hong Kong Port (澳门口岸).
Once done with ticket purchase, the path leads to security and customs clearance, followed by immigration clearance. After which, there is a junction to lead you to HZMB Zhuhai Port (but why would you do that when you should be using Border Gate?) or to Hong Kong ie. the HZM Bus shuttle bus.
Heading down to the bus departure hall after immigration.
There is another HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus ticket counter here just in case you haven’t bought your ticket. And no, you’re not allowed to walk to Hong Kong for obvious reasons.
Heading out to the bus bays.
This looks like a Chinese railway station instead.
You can’t miss the bus bay for the HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus with this big sign and the many gold buses behind it.
Oh hello, you look familiar.
Heading to board the HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus.
A Made-in-JB Gemilang Coachworks MAN A95 standing by for passenger service at HZMB Macau Port.
A Made-in-China Scania Marcopolo Audace 1050 standing by for passenger service at HZMB Macau Port.
Unfortunately, this was my departing bus, a Made-in-Singapore MAN RR2 with SC Chivalrous bodywork departing next.
Putting my bag in the luggage compartment.
Boarding my bus to Hong Kong.
The interior of the MAN RR2 with SC Chivalrous bodywork. What an uninspiring bus ride, feels like I’m going to Parkway instead of going to Hong Kong.
Before departure, a ground crew ensures that all passengers have their seat belts on.
Departing from HZMB Hong Kong Port.
I was hoping to get the MAN A22 bus, but seems that luck was not on my side.
Not that my luck was about to get better with the amount of single-deck buses on standby.
On this Macau side of the island, traffic still drives on the left.
The facade of the HZMB Zhuhai Port.
Merging with the road from Zhuhai. Here, traffic drives on the right, just like China.
Approaching the toll booth for the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge.
Heading onto the Main Bridge over the Pearl River Delta.
The HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus has a speed indicator facing passengers, just like the minibuses in Hong Kong.
There is an annoyingly slow speed limit of 80km/h on this rather straight bridge, which will be further reduced to 60km/h on days of bad weather or visibility.
The skyline of Zhuhai from the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge.
As the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge crosses over the sea, the view is similar to the ferry out of the window.
Continuing on slowly on the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge.
Passing by some islets off Zhuhai.
A private BMW car overtaking my bus. Cars are allowed to drive at 100km/h on the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge.
Crossing the three cable-stayed bridges where the Main Bridge elevates to allow ships to pass underneath it.
Approaching the first artificial island.
Heading into the undersea tunnel.
The undersea tunnel looks very similar to the KPE. The road is very straight too.
Heading out of the undersea tunnel.
Exiting from the other artificial island on the Hong Kong Link Road.
Passing by Tai O.
On the Hong Kong Link Road, the speed is further reduced to just 70km/h.
More views of rural Lantau Island.
Chek Lap Kok Island where the Hong Kong International Airport sits on is clearly visible from the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge.
Passing by Chek Lap Kok Island.
Interestingly, instead of building it on Lantau Island which can anchor the viaduct on land, the viaduct continues in the sea, skirting around Lantau Island.
Passing by the Ngong Ping 360 Airport Island Angle Station.
Heading through Scenic Hill Tunnel on Chek Lap Kok Island to pass under Scenic Hill smoothly with a gentle curve.
Looking back at the skyline of Tung Chung.
The fenced off road on Chek Lap Kok Island.
Approaching HZMB Hong Kong Port.
The public Chek Lap Kok Road heading towards Siu Ho Wan.
The facade of HZMB Hong Kong Port.
The welcome sign of HZMB Hong Kong Port.
Looping around the bus park area at HZMB Macau Port.
The arrival bus bays at HZMB Macau Port.
Arriving at HZMB Hong Kong Port. This gives me a bit of a HKIA Terminal 2 feel.
The ride from HZMB Macau Port (Posto Fronteiriço da Ponte Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau / 澳门口岸) to HZMB Hong Kong Port (澳门口岸) took 40 minutes.
A MAN A22 bus at HZMB Macau Port. Not sure if it had arrived from Zhuhai or Macau, since it has 2 registration plates.
Heading into the HZMB Macau Port for Hong Kong immigration and customs clearance.
Overall, a fuss-free journey with the HZM Bus Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus with frequent departures and no confusions since there’s only one way to get across from Macau to Hong Kong.
Next, to get to Hong Kong International Airport to catch my flight back to Singapore.
