In Memory: KTM Distribution at Kuala Lumpur Railway Station Last Day

In Memory: KTM Distribution at Kuala Lumpur Railway Station

31 October 2022 marks the last day of KTM Distribution operations. KTM Distribution Sdn. Bhd. (Kiriman Ekspres) terminated its operations with effect from 1 November 2022 in line with KTM Distribution’s restructuring exercise.

On 7 October 2022, I paid a visit to KTM Distribution at Kuala Lumpur Railway Station on its last date of parcel drop off at their customer service counter to take some last pictures of KTM Distribution operations.

KTM Distribution at Kuala Lumpur Railway Station

KTM Distribution’s main branch was at Kuala Lumpur Railway Station at the northern end of the station building.

There is a car park and loading bay within KTM Distribution’s premises. However, this is not where the main distribution happens. The main distribution hub is in U5 Shah Alam. Walk in here for the Customer Service Counter.

There is a standee pointing to the Customer Service Counter.

KTM Distribution Kuala Lumpur Railway Station Customer Service Counter

The Customer Service Counter is located in the Kuala Lumpur Railway Station building itself.

The counters for submission of package and payment are located just inside the office lot.

There is also a side table for writing bills, a weighing scale, and information about KTM Distribution services and rates.

KTM Distribution Kuala Lumpur Railway Station Loading Bays

Outside the customer service counter by Platform 1, there is a loading bay for parcels and motorcycles. Motorcycles are kept in a caged area.

KTM Distribution no longer used trains to carry their consignment, but instead use road vehicles such as trucks, lorries, and vans. Here’s a double-deck truck to transport motorcycles.

A van is used for parcels, bringing a new meaning to the name Parcel Van.

There was a siding here for Kiriman Ekspres Parcel Vans usually attached on night express trains, but this is no longer in use, and the tracks have also been removed. There are also no more regular KTM Intercity trains serving Kuala Lumpur.

Conclusion

The demise of KTM Distribution is an end of an era for train services in Malaysia, as the sole provider of courier services by a train company is gone from 1 November 2022. Nevertheless, customers have plenty of options to choose from with many branded companies still in operation such as Pos Laju, J&T Express, or Ninja Van, just to name a few.

Farewell, KTM Distribution.
