KTM Komuter Utara Ipoh Extension from 16 September 2023
KTM Komuter Northern Sector or Komuter Utara will be extended to Ipoh Railway Station from 16 September 2023, serving 3 new stations, Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Siput, and Ipoh. This is an extension of the existing Butterworth-Padang Rengas Line, with direct access soon to Kuala Kangsar, and a new high catchment city of Ipoh. The Butterworth-Padang Rengas Line will thus become the Butterworth-Ipoh Line on 16 September 2023.

KTM Komuter Utara to Ipoh
The new KTM Komuter Northern Sector Butterworth-Ipoh Line running time will take 1 hour and 56 minutes per trip, end to end, between Butterworth and Ipoh, and will cost RM12.80 for adults, with the usual concessions available if eligible. The first train from Ipoh will depart at 4.40am daily, and the first train from Butterworth will depart at 5.30am daily. The last train from Ipoh will depart at 6.35pm daily, and the last train from Butterworth will depart at 7.10pm daily. There will be a total of 10 trips in each direction daily (total of 20 combined). Trains will depart approximately every 60 minutes during peak hours and 120 minutes during off-peak hours.
New timetables are not available yet.

The KTM Komuter Northern Sector extension to Kuala Kangsar, Sungai Siput, and Ipoh is on the initiative of YB Tuan Kesavan A/L Subramaniam, Member of Parliament for Sungai Siput, who submitted this issue to the Ministry of Transport, YB Tuan Anthony Loke Siew Fook, and this issue was supported and approved.
Notably, Tasek Railway Station is excluded from the KTM Komuter Northern Sector Butterworth-Ipoh Line in the letter from KTM Berhad CEO YBhg. Datuk Mohd Rani Hisham bin Samsudin to YB Tuan Kesavan A/L Subramaniam.
