Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line: The Island Cable Car Line linking Merlion, Imbiah Lookout and Siloso Point

The Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line is the latest addition to the Singapore Cable Car Sky Network and the transport system within Sentosa Island. Spanning 880 meters between Merlion and Siloso Point stations, it is the fastest link between the two points but is also the only paid transport system within Sentosa Island (the internal Sentosa Express, Sentosa Bus and Beach Tram are free of charge). Due to the chargeble fares, most passengers use the line for sightseeing purposes rather than a regular mode of transport.

The Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line serves 3 stations, namely, Merlion Station, Imbiah Lookout Station and Siloso Point Station.

Merlion Station – Imbiah Lookout Station

Merlion Station is the eastern terminus of the Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line. If you are coming in from the Sentosa Express (monorail), this is the interchange from Imbiah Station.

If you haven’t already gotten your ticket, you may purchase it at the ticket counters before heading up to the boarding area.

The stations on the Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line are rather compact, probably due to the limited footprint they are allowed to be built on the already land-scarce island.

As this is an intermediate station, there is a shorter boarding and alighting area.

Imbiah Lookout Station

Imbiah Lookout Station is located at the top of Mount Imbiah, the main cluster of attractions in central Sentosa. If you are heading to the Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom, Images of Singapore LIVE, Madame Tussauds Singapore, MegaZip Adventure Park, Sentosa 4D Adventureland, Sentosa Nature Discovery, Skyline Luge Sentosa, Tiger Sky Tower or Sentosa Cable Car Mount Faber Line, this station is for you.

If you are heading towards other parts of Sentosa, you may also change to Sentosa Bus A, a free internal shuttle bus around the central and western parts of the island.

Imbiah Lookout Station – Siloso Point Station

Continuing on the Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line, the Imbiah Lookout – Siloso Point section is the main sightseeing and “shortcut” section of the line, flying above the forested areas of Sentosa.

The section between Siloso Point and Imbiah Lookout is undoubtedly the most scenic section of the route.

Imbiah Lookout Station – Merlion Station

Upon departure from Imbiah Lookout Station, you will see the Skyline Luge’s Skyride, a chairlift ride linking the base of the Skyline Luge at Siloso Beach to the starting point at Imbiah Lookout. It is mainly used by Luge riders rather than commuting purposes.

Merlion Station is the western terminus of the Singapore Cable Car Sentosa Line. If you are heading to Beach Station, Waterfront Station for Resorts World Sentosa or Sentosa Station for mainland Singapore (VivoCity), you may change to the Sentosa Express (monorail) at Imbiah Station.

If you are heading towards the Merlion, Le Méridien Singapore or Resorts World Sentosa, this stop is for you.

If you are heading towards Resorts World Sentosa or Beach Station, you may change to Sentosa Bus A, a free internal shuttle bus.

If you are heading towards the eastern parts of Sentosa such as Sentosa Cove, Sentosa Golf Club or Palawan Beach, you may change to Sentosa Bus B, a free internal shuttle bus.

Overall, the Sentosa Cable Car Sentosa Line offers a convenient and scenic but hot and humid mode of transport across Sentosa Island. As the cable cars are non-air-conditioned, combined with Singapore’s heat, the cable car gets hot pretty easily. It may not be a good idea to stay on board for a complete round.
