Tree-Cutting Activity Causes Power Line Disruption, Affecting KTMB Train Services

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 OCTOBER 2024 – Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) apologizes for the incident that occurred on 25 October 2024, which affected thousands of ETS and KTM Komuter passengers. Due to third-party tree-cutting near the railway line, an overhead power line was snapped, impacting train operations. The incident occurred between Kepong and Sungai Buloh at around 2:45 p.m.

This disruption caused delays of over 120 minutes for ETS and KTM Komuter Klang Valley Sector trains on the Port Klang – Tanjung Malim – Port Klang route, as trains were operated on a single track to manage traffic. 13 ETS trains were delayed, affecting 3,480 passengers. KTMB’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Mohd Zain Bin Taha, assured passengers were informed via SMS and offered a full refund if they opted not to travel or fare adjustments for incomplete journeys.

Passengers with Premium Takaful Plans may claim if the delay exceeds four hours by contacting Etiqa Claim Assist at 1 300 88 1007 / 010 368 7829 or via email at support@goinsure.com.my.

KTMB’s technical team worked swiftly to restore services, completing repairs by 3.30am on 26 October 2024, with trains resuming normal operation at 3.54 am.

Throughout the disruption, updates were provided on social media, and staff, supported by Auxiliary Police, assisted affected passengers at stations.

In other developments, Mr. Zain shared updates on the Klang Valley Double Track Upgrading Project Phase 1 (KVDT1), covering the Rawang to Salak Selatan sector, which is now 99.13% complete. Phase 2 (KVDT2), which started on 29 July 2022 and covering the Bangi to Seremban sector and Port Klang branch line, is in its early stages, reaching 25.5% completion.
