KTMB Launches KITS Style: Malaysia’s First Rail-Based Digital Lifestyle App with ASEAN’s First Open-Loop Transit Prepaid Card

KTM Berhad marked a new milestone in its digital transformation journey with the launch of KITS Style on 13 July 2025 – Malaysia’s first digital lifestyle application introduced by a rail operator. The app positions KTMB at the forefront of Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) innovation in ASEAN, delivering a smarter, more connected and cashless public transport experience.

KITS Style builds on KTMB’s original KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS) launched in 2019 and has evolved into an all-in-one MaaS platform. It empowers users with seamless access to:

  • AI-powered journey planning
  • Bookings for flights, hotels, attractions, and car rentals
  • KITS Style Prepaid Mastercard (physical & virtual)
  • Rail Rewards loyalty programme
  • Insurance and utility payments
  • Money transfers, mobile top-ups, and exclusive lifestyle offers

The app reflects KTMB’s commitment to redefining the way Malaysians travel – integrating daily mobility with lifestyle convenience on a single platform. KITS Style app is poised to deliver significant enhancements for our existing 4.6 million app users while simultaneously drawing in new customers.

Driving Transit Innovation with ASEAN’s First Open-Loop Rail Prepaid Card

A key highlight is the launch of the KITS Style Prepaid Mastercard, making KTMB the first rail operator in ASEAN to introduce an open-loop prepaid card for transit services. Designed for interoperability, the card will soon be usable not only for KTMB services but also for other modes of public transport nationwide.

Available now as a virtual card via the KITS Style app, the physical card will be released in September 2025. Users can also look forward to a range of promotional incentives and travel discounts linked to the prepaid system.

Powering Seamless Mobility Through Strategic Partnerships

KTMB also signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Capital A and Mastercard to enhance digital integration and strengthen secure, cashless payment. The collaboration with Capital A will see parties explore the integration of rail and air travel into a single digital ecosystem on KTMB’s Fly Rail platform – beginning with seamless transfers between KTMB services and Senai Airport and expanding in the future to serve both domestic and cross-border routes. The partnership also enables integration between KTMB’s Rail Rewards and Capital A’s loyalty program, AirAsia Rewards, which is available on its OTA platform MOVE, offering passengers expanded travel benefits and cross-platform rewards. Meanwhile, the MoU with Mastercard will boost payment infrastructure and digital transaction security across KTMB’s services.

“At Mastercard, we believe consumers should always be at the heart of digital innovation. The collaboration with KTMB on the KITS Style app is all about making the everyday commute simpler, faster, and more secure for Malaysians. Whether it’s planning a journey, paying for a ride, or enjoying lifestyle perks, commuters now have everything they need in one intuitive platform.”
