The Ekspres Rakyat Timuran is a daily service plying the length of Peninsular Malaysia on the East Coast Line, or sometimes known as the Jungle Railway. Here’s the train standing by for service at Tumpat.

Once the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran train is ready for passengers, it will be shunted to the main platform for boarding.

The end of the train at the end of the line.

My bed for the journey.

The interior of the ADNS. Not many passengers board from Tumpat, but the train fills up at stations along the way.

Departing from Tumpat.

The train passes through the usual East Coast stations, but I was eating my Nasi Kerabu bought at the bazaar in the previous picture, so no shots of those stations. They all look almost the same at night though. Here’s a shot of the train departing Pasir Mas.

Waking up fresh the next morning after a good night’s sleep.

Passing by the kampungs near Bahau.

Breakfast after an overnight ride is always best served in the buffet coach.

Here’s the microwaved Nasi Goreng from the caterer for RM5.50.

Lots of palm plantations between Bahau and Gemas.

Taking the curve into Gemas.

A slightly longer layover at Gemas, with the crews changing out for the leg to JB Sentral.

Passengers disembarking from the train at Segamat.

Since I was well awake, I decided to get the seat configuration out in the ADNS once again so I can stretch out in a proper seated position.

Crossing at Kluang with the 40up Ekspres Selatan from JB Sentral to Pulau Sebang (Tampin).

Crossing at Layang-Layang with the 42up Ekspres Selatan from JB Sentral to Gemas.

The Ekspres Rakyat Timuran arrived at JB Sentral on time.

Since it will be a 2.5 hour layover for the next Shuttle Tebrau, I made my way back to Singapore by bus.
