KTM Launches Gemas-Kuala Lipis DMU Train From 21 February 2022

Shuttle Timuran 35dn and 38up Gemas-Kuala Lipis DMU

The new Shuttle Timuran 35dn and 38up plying between Gemas and Kuala Lipis will start operations from Monday, 21 February 2022. Train services will be operated by the new KTM 61 Class DMU. This new Shuttle Timuran train adds a day time travel option between this Central Malaysia sector.

Train services on this Central Malaysia sector between Gemas and Kuala Lipis has currently been offered only by the overnight Ekspres Rakyat Timuran for the past 8 years. The last train service running on the Gemas – Kuala Lipis sector during the day was the Shuttle 91/92 plying between Tumpat and Woodlands CIQ before the July 2014 Malaysia floods.

The Ekspres Makmur plying on this same route was previously published in the original 1 April 2021 timetable by KTM Berhad, but it never launched. KTM Berhad then reuploaded another revised 1 April 2021 timetable without the Ekspres Makmur.

The Shuttle Timuran 35dn and 38up was published in the 15 January 2022 timetable but did not launch on the published date.

The train number 35dn was previously used by the International Express plying between Bangkok Hua Lamphong and Butterworth.

Shuttle Timuran 35dn and 38up Gemas-Kuala Lipis Free Rides from 21 to 23 February 2022

KTM Berhad will offer free rides on the new Shuttle Timuran 35dn and 38up from 21 to 23 February 2022. While free tickets can only be retrieved from physical ticket counters, KTM Berhad says to use the promo code JOYRIDEDMU. I’m not sure how this works. Maybe you need to verbally tell the counter staff the promo code to verify that you are not a robot.

Regular Shuttle Timuran subsidised fares will apply after the first 3 days of free rides. Check fares on the KTMB Integrated Ticketing System (KITS).
